Student Leadership

we offer a wealth of leadership opportunities

There are multiple opportunities for students to develop leadership skills at The Green School.  These include:

•  The Student Leadership Team - selected from Year 13, these students work closely with staff members, taking responsibility for and serving across the following portfolios: Teaching and Learning; Community and Well-Being; Service to the School and the House System. In addition to running and supporting events and activities related to these portfolios, they also contribute to whole school events, such as fundraisers, assemblies and tutorial presentations and write the school’s online magazine, ‘Green Tea’.
• Senior Prefects - selected from Year 12, these students support the Sixth Form Leadership Team with organising initiatives and whole school events, in addition to carrying out duties in the main school, planning and delivering assemblies and running events. 
• Pastoral Mentors - these Sixth Form students apply to work with Year 7 and Year 8 tutor groups. They visit them during tutorial time once a week and carry out a range of roles including: leading tutor group discussions on key issues, giving advice about study skills and exam preparation, helping to plan form assemblies, reading with individual students.
• Academic Mentors - these Sixth Form students work through subject departments to support learning across the school. Their roles are wide and varied, depending on need, but may include running drop-in sessions to help with home learning, running revision sessions, working 1-2-1 with students as an academic buddy.
• Student Councils - each Key Stage has a student council drawn from representatives from each form. These students work with the Assistant Headteacher for their key stage to advise and give feedback on school issues as well as to represent the views of the student body.
• House Captains - the TGSG House Captains are drawn from Year 12; they work in collaboration with a vice-captain from Year 10 and with members of the Student Leadership Team to run inter-house competitions and events throughout the year.
• Learning Ambassadors - drawn from Year 10, these students are part of the Teaching and Learning portfolio. They work with Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning and school staff, as well as students in the Sixth Form and the Year 9 subject ambassadors to promote learning activities and principles across the school.
• Subject Ambassadors - drawn from Year 9, these students represent a specific subject and work with the Head of Department and other members of the Teaching and Learning portfolio to promote The Learning Constructs of the school.
• Junior Librarians - these students work closely with our Librarian to assist in the CIRCLE, supporting other students to develop their love of reading.
• Peer Support Ambassadors - this role draws students from Years 11, 12 and 13. Students are trained to be able to work with their peers and students from younger year groups to provide support and guidance on a range of school related issues and also to be able to signpost additional support in the form of supporting the students in speaking to staff members or referring them to online resources as appropriate. The Designated Safeguarding Lead oversees this, with the support of the Director of Sixth Form and Heads of Year.
