Home Learning
The Green School values the role of home learning to develop students’ knowledge, skills and understanding outside of the timetabled curriculum. It is a vital method of improving attainment as meaningful home learning has a significant impact on boosting student progress. Tasks not only consolidate, deepen and extend learning, but promote independent and organisational skills to support students in becoming more autonomous. It is essential that all students have opportunities to develop their independent study skills and establish these positive habits of enquiry and investigation as they progress through each Key Stage. The very nature of home learning will vary considerably within a subject and between subjects, but it should be a continuation of the learning in school.
We see home learning as developing the effective partnership between the school, parents and carers in pursuing excellence and the development of learning within the student.
The Learning Constructs also provide further information for students and teachers about organising independent learning, and scaffolding activities that involve different learning approaches such as problem solving and enquiry.
Students can attend home learning clubs or subject clubs if they require facilities, resources, extra guidance or a quiet space to complete work.
