Equality objectives 

2022 - 2023 

Our equality objectives are based on our analysis of data and other information.  Our equality objectives focus on those areas where we have agreed to take action to improve equality and tackle disadvantages and unconscious bias

 

Objective 1: We aim to narrow the progress of SEN K students against non-SEN K students

Why we have chosen this objective: The achievement of this group of students remains lower than other groups of students at the end of KS4 

To achieve this objective we plan to use our resources in school to:

  • have students complete our Bridge programme in KS3, and ensure that the correctly identified students have Study Support and follow the ASDAN course at KS4 
  • deploy the LSA’s to support students with learning programmes in and out of lessons 
  • review and develop our CPDL programme with a focus on meeting the needs of vulnerable students (SEMH) and those with learning disabilities 
  • ensure that student Learning Passports are reviewed regularly and used by staff to support them
  • promote and encourage the students to become more involved in the co-curricular programme of the school, including taking on leadership roles 
  • continuing our engagement with parents/carers through Structured Conversations, whilst working with external agencies (CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, Early Help) 

Objective 2: We aim to narrow the progress gap between Disadvantaged and non-Disadvantaged students, including those students who are Looked After (LAC).

Why we have chosen this objective: Whilst the achievement of this group of students is vastly above the national level (at the end of KS4), it is lower than that of non-Disadvantaged students at the end of KS4 

To achieve this objective we plan to use our resources in school to:

  • analyse student achievement and Inclusion data in all year groups, by SLT and the LGB
  • plan activities that encourage “Reading for Pleasure” , led by the Librarian and Assistant Headteacher 
  • encourage staff to provide enrichment activities and additional learning resources that will raise the achievement of Disadvantaged students (ongoing)
  • monitor the quality of marking and feedforward 
  • promote and encourage this group of students to become more involved in the co-curricular programme of the school, including taking on leadership roles 
  • continuing our engagement with parents/carers through Structured Conversations, whilst working with external agencies (CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, Early Help) (Sept 2019)

Objective 3: We aim to reduce the variation in progress between our 5 main ethnic groups

Why we have chosen this objective: We are committed to making sure that no group is inadvertently disadvantaged due to their ethnic origin or background or due to unconscious bias

To achieve this objective we plan to use our resources in school to:

  • analyse student achievement and Inclusion data in all year groups by SLT and the LGB
  • reviewing the curriculum offer, after monitoring the KS4 and KS5 outcomes for students 
  • include non-bias training in our CPL programme 
  • continuing our engagement with parents/carers through Structured Conversations, whilst working with external agencies (CAMHS, Educational Psychologists, Early Help) 

 

Objective 4: We aim to ensure that the Code of Conduct is applied consistently across the school

Why we have chosen this objective: Feedback from some students, staff and  parents/carers is that there is still some inconsistent practice in the application of the Code of Conduct

To achieve this objective we plan to use our resources in school to:

  • Review the Code of Conduct, with feedback from staff and students on an annual basis
  • Implement the updated procedures,  
  • update the CPL programme with half termly updates for staff, and termly updated for students 
  • use the whole school survey to monitor responses to the updated procedures 
  • Provide relevant training such as "trauma training" and "unconscious bias" training
  • enable the LGB to monitor the effectiveness of the Code of Conduct
