Governance

Governance within The Green School Trust

The Green School for Girls is an academy within The Green School Trust. The Trust is governed by a Board of Directors which delegates specific responsibilities to the Local Governing Body of  The Green School for Girls. These responsibilities are listed on a Scheme of Delegation, a link to which can be found at the bottom of this webpage.

You can read more about the governance of The Green School Trust, including the roles and responsibilities of the Members and Directors, on the Trust's website here.

The annual report and financial statements for The Green School Trust can be found here.

The Green School for Girls Local Governing Body’s responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that the school maintains its Christian ethos and values

  • Discussing and agreeing the annual School Development Plan

  • Keeping both the curriculum and extra-curricular activities under review

  • Holding the school's leadership to account for the performance of the school by:

        - reviewing academic targets and monitoring pupils' progress towards them
        - monitoring the quality of teaching

  • Ensuring that all pupils receive support according to their individual needs

  • Checking that effective arrangements are in place for safeguarding pupils

  • Maintaining arrangements for receiving the views of parents, staff and students

  • Setting up panels as required for staff grievances and disciplinary issues and student exclusions

Terms of Reference (ToR) are reviewed annually and the current version can be found at the bottom of this webpage.

Local Governors bring relevant skills and experience to their task and undertake appropriate training. They get to know the school by receiving written and oral reports from school management at termly meetings and by making 'link' visits in order to monitor a specific area of school life.

Local Governors do not get involved in the day-to-day management or operation of the school nor in issues relating to individual pupils (other than in the case of an exclusion panel).  They cannot make decisions as individuals unless they have specific authority from the full Local Governing Body to do so.

The Directors, the Local Governors, the Executive Headteacher and the Head of School work in close partnership for the good of the school, respecting each other’s roles and responsibilities.  Local Governors act as “critical friends”, by supporting the Executive Headteacher and Head of School in the performance of their responsibilities by providing advice, feedback and constructive challenge.

The constitution of the Local Governing Body for The Green School for Girls is as follows:

  • Six SERVICE (Foundation) Governors, appointed by the Board of Directors.

  • Two Parent Governors, elected by parents.

  • One Staff Governor, elected by staff.

  • Up to three Co-opted Governors, elected by the LGB.
  • The Head of School, ex officio.

Except for the Head of School, who is ex officio, members of the Local Governing Body are appointed or elected for a three year term, although they can be reappointed or re-elected at the end of their term of office.  The Executive Headteacher and all Directors may attend Local Governing Body Meetings.
